Charlottetown Islanders edge past Shawinigan Cataractes 6-5

EASTLINK CENTRE, CHARLOTTETOWN — Brett Budgell had three assists leading the Charlottetown Islanders to a 6-5 victory over the Shawinigan Cataractes in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action. Liam Peyton scored two goals for the Islanders.

Xavier Bourgault had a goal and an assist for Shawinigan.

The Cataractes took an early 3-2 lead in the first period led by goals from Gabriel Denis, Bourgault and Xavier Cormier. Gaetan Jobin and Nikita Alexandrov scored for the Islanders.

Shawinigan extended their lead in the second period to 5-3 after goals from Marc-Antoine Pépin and Mavrik Bourque. Drew Elliott scored for the Islanders.

The third period saw the Islanders take the lead 6-5 led by two goals from Peyton and a goal from Ethan Crossman.

ON THE POWER PLAY: The Islanders scored once in three opportunities while the Cataractes failed to score in two chances.
