When the NHL announced that they were not going to participate in the 2018 Olympics, fans and players were understandably upset. They had been robbed of a best-on-best tournament; no league-created event, from the All-Star Game to the ironically named World Cup of Hockey, ever came close to the prestige and competitiveness of the Olympics.
