Retaining Hall and attracting other players to New Jersey
Larry Brooks of NY Post: With Artemi Panarin getting offers going up to $12.5 million a season, Taylor Hall could get offers of $13 million next offseason when he becomes a free agent.
If you are New Jersey Devils GM Ray Shero, $13 million is where you start right now. It would be a risk for Shero to enter the season without having Hall signed.
Hall has risk on his side as well. Last year he only played in 33 games because of a knee issue and has dealt with bad knees in two of the past three seasons.
The P.K. Subban trade may have been more ownership-driven than by management. The Devils have a lot stake. Acquiring Subban and draft Jack Hughes should help with Hall and to also aid in attracting other players to New Jersey.

Larry Brooks of NY Post: There is some belief that something personal may have happened between New York Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello and goaltender Robin Lehner during contract talks. The Islanders gave 31-year old Semyon Varlamov four years at $5 million.

Larry Brooks of NY Post: Ownerships may have been pressuring management to sign some free agent in Dallas (Joe Pavelski and Corey) and in Minnesota (Mats Zuccarello).
