NHL Rumors: Niklas Kronwall, Jim Benning, and the Minnesota Wild

The Niklas Kronwall indecision in the decision…

From Abel To Yzerman (Paul Kukla and George Malik):  As August rolls along, it has become clear that Niklas Kronwall will take his sweet time in any decision made. The information has been scarce at best on the defenseman.

George Malik scanned the Swedish newspapers exhaustively and not much has been found.

I’ve been scanning the Swedish papers daily for the past three months, and the most information I found came from the Patrik Nemeth article on HockeyNews.se today—simply that the Red Wings want to re-sign Kronwall, who hasn’t made up his mind.

There have been no interviews with Kronwall, not even at his All-Star game to raise money for his youth team in Stockholm, and I’m not sure we’re going to hear anything until training camp approaches because it appears that he’s asked the Swedish press for space, and that’s what they’re giving him.

All is quiet and it just seems like another decision to be made around training camp. This happened last year with Henrik Zetterberg. He was forced to retire on September 14th, 2018 due to back issues. As for Kronwall, stay tuned.

Jim Benning and well Brock Boeser too…

Iain McIntyre:  The beat goes on in Vancouver as Jim Benning signed his contract extension. However, there remained no news on the Brock Boeser front as again, everyone seems to be waiting.

Ed Willes of The Province:  Jim Benning’s keen eye on talent shines through for the most part. On the other hand, his ability to trade and sign free agents is questionable at best. This characterizes his five-year run as Vancouver Canucks’ general manager. What Benning does this year will not only shape Vancouver but determine his fate.

Can he develop Utica at last? Can he get the hockey department to maximize this talent? Those questions must be answered.

Lastly, there is the Minnesota Wild

Elliotte Friedman:  Although Bill Guerin maintains his front-runner status, Minnesota is still interviewing candidates. The general manager search keeps expanding for the Wild. Chris MacFarland, assistant general manager in Colorado, became the latest to be interviewed on Monday.
