Monsters sign Matteau to AHL deal

The Cleveland Monsters have signed forward Stefan Matteau to a one-year AHL contract for the 2019-20 season.

Matteau, 25, posted five goals and eight assists for 13 points in 55 regular-season games with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves last season. He also recorded three goals and five assists in 21 playoff contests, including the winning goal in overtime of Game 1 of the 2019 Calder Cup Finals.

Matteau has skated in 311 AHL games over six pro seasons with Chicago, St. John’s and Albany, totaling 57 goals and 61 assists for 118 points. A first-round pick (29th overall) by New Jersey in the 2012 NHL Draft, Matteau has also collected three goals and four assists in 64 NHL matches with the Devils, Montreal and Vegas.
