Hurricanes sign Claesson to two-way deal

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed defenseman Fredrik Claesson to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2019-20 season.

Claesson, 26, skated in 37 NHL games with the New York Rangers last season, collecting two goals and four assists for six points.

In 150 career NHL contests with the Rangers and Ottawa, Claesson has totaled six goals and 20 assists for 26 points.

Selected by Ottawa in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft, Claesson played 285 games in the AHL with the Binghamton Senators, recording 13 goals and 57 assists for 70 points. In 2013-14, he tied for second in the AHL with a plus-37 rating.
