Canucks sign WHL points leader Arshdeep Bains to entry-level deal

VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Canucks have signed left-winger Arshdeep Bains to an entry-level contract.

Bains, 21, comes to the Canucks from the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League.

He has tallied 82 points (30 goals, 52 assists) this season and is the first player of South Asian descent to lead the league in points.

Hailing from Surrey, B.C., the six-foot-one, 186-pound forward also has 46 penalty minutes this season and leads the WHL in assists.

Bains is a key part of Red Deer’s power play, with 11 goals and 24 assists on the man advantage.

The Canucks (29-23-6) are set to continue their seven-game homestand Friday when they host the Washington Capitals.
