PETERBOROUGH, Ont. – Avery Hayes scored three goals as the Peterborough Petes defeated the Mississauga Steelheads 5-2 Tuesday in Ontario Hockey League action.

Owen Beck and Brennan Othmann also for Peterborough (33-25-4), which has won seven of its last 10 games.

Lucas Karmiris and Jack Van Volsen scored for Mississauga (29-27-6) , which has just two wins over its last 10 contests.

Petes netminder Liam Sztuska made 43 saves on 45 shots.

Steelheads goaltender Ryerson Leenders stopped 42 of 46 shots.
