Hurricanes sign Gibbons to one-year contract

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Brian Gibbons to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2019-20 season.

Gibbons, 31, has spent the last two seasons exclusively in the National Hockey League, picking up eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 64 games between Anaheim and Ottawa in 2018-19. He tallied 12 goals and 14 assists in 59 games with New Jersey in 2017-18.

A ninth-year pro from Braintree, Mass., Gibbons has totaled 25 goals and 42 assists for 67 points in 189 career NHL games with the Senators, Ducks, Devils, Columbus Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Gibbons, an AHL All-Star in 2014, has skated in 329 AHL games with Albany, Hartford, Springfield and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, registering 55 goals and 105 assists for 160 points.
