Marlies advance on Brooks’ hat trick

The defending champions are moving on.

Adam Brooks scored all three goals and the Toronto Marlies made quick work of the Rochester Americans, finishing off a three-game sweep with a 3-1 victory at Coca-Cola Coliseum on Wednesday night.

The Marlies await the winner of the Syracuse-Cleveland series.

Kasimir Kaskisuo (3-0) made 28 saves for the Marlies in the Game 3 win. He stopped 97 of 101 shots in the series (1.30, .960).

Brooks took a feed from Michael Carcone and gave Toronto a 1-0 lead just 1:26 into the game.

After Tage Thompson tied things up for the Amerks at 9:38 of the second period, Brooks redirected home a point shot from Vincent LoVerde as Toronto retook the lead at 11:37.

Kaskisuo made 16 of his 28 stops in the third period to preserve the lead, and Brooks finished off the hat trick with an empty-net goal with 36 seconds to play.

Rochester has now been swept in each of its three all-time playoff meetings with Toronto (0-9), and has lost eight consecutive playoff series since its last win in 2005.
