Chicago hosts Grand Rapids this afternoon in the finale of their Central Division semifinal series, with the winner advancing to the second round of the Calder Cup Playoffs… The Wolves evened the series with a 5-2 win in Game 4 on Wednesday night, setting up the first winner-take-all playoff game between these rivals in 17 years… Griffins head coach Ben Simon, then a forward for the Wolves, scored the winning goal in the third period of Chicago’s 4-2 victory in Game 5 of their Western Conference quarterfinal on Apr. 21, 2002… The Wolves’ Tye McGinn (3-3-6) leads all scorers in this year’s series, including a goal and two assists in Game 4… Chicago was 2-for-4 on the power play in Game 4 after starting the series 2-for-14… Oscar Dansk (1-1, 3.02, .902) made 29 saves in Game 4 to earn his first career Calder Cup Playoff win… Matt Puempel (2-2-4) leads the Griffins in playoff scoring; all four of his points came in Grand Rapids’ two victories… Harri Sateri (2-2, 2.29, .929) has allowed just nine goals on 126 shots in the series… Today’s game is the 178th winner-take-all playoff contest in AHL history… Home teams are 109-68 (.616), including 17-6 since 2014… Chicago is 8-3 in winner-take-all games in the AHL (6-2 at home)… Grand Rapids is 4-4 in such games (0-1 on the road).
