The offseason goalie market

Rory Boylen of Sportsnet: Looking at some goaltenders who could be available in free agency or in a trade.

Free Agents

Sergei Bobrovsky: Potentially interested teams include the New York Islanders, Calgary Flames, and Carolina Hurricanes. He’ll be 31-years old at the start of the season and will cost the most to sign.

Semyon Varlamov: Is 31 and likely won’t be getting a long-term deal. Could get three years or less at or below $5 million.

Robin Lehner: Coming off a one-year deal and his best season. A long-term, big money deal would have some risk.

Petr Mrazek/Curtis McElhinney: The Carolina Hurricanes are expected to re-sign at least one of their goalies. McElhinney is 36 and Mrazek is 27.  Mrazek still has some potential and a team could take a shot at him.

Cam Talbot: His best option may be to remain in Philadelphia and back up his friend Carter Hart.

Ryan Miller: He’ll be 39-years old this offseason so retirement could be an option for him as well. If he doesn’t re-sign with the Ducks, could the San Jose Sharks be interested?

Mike Smith: The 37-year old didn’t have a good season. The Flames could bring him back, if not, he may have to split duties or backup.

Trade Candidates

Craig Anderson: Last year of his deal at a $4.75 million cap hit. If the Senators have enough money on the books to get to the salary floor, they could look to move him for a pick or prospect. Could be a 1A or 1B for someone.

Jake Allen: Lost his starting job and could be moved. The St. Louis Blues would then need to find a backup for Binnington. The Blues could promote RFA Ville Husso. Allen has two years left at $4.35 million.

James Reimer: The Florida Panthers would need to move at least one of Roberto Luongo (unlikely) or James Reimer if they are able to sign Bobrovsky. Two years left at $3.4 million and the Panthers could retain some money.

Jonathan Quick: Health has been an issue lately. Will be 34 next year and carries a $5.8 million cap hit for another four seasons. The Los Angeles Kings may have to retain money. The Kings may want to save some money and get younger.
