Kings are talking to a couple RFAs

John Hoven: The Los Angeles Kings have started contract talks with restricted free agents Adrian Kempe and Alex Iafallo. There is still lots of work to do before they are signed.

Guessing that both will be in the $2.5 million range on a two-year deal.

Kings mailbag

Josh Cooper of The Athletic: (mailbag) Jonathan Quick‘s trade value around the league may not be that high at the moment.

A Quick trade to the Philadelphia Flyers does make some sense to help mentor along Carter Hart.

Possible Quick landing spots if they look to move him could include the Buffalo Sabres, Ottawa Senators, Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets (if Sergei Bobrovsky leaves), New Jersey Devils and the Florida Panthers (if they don’t land Bobrovsky).

Can’t see the LA Kings wanting to trade Dustin Brown. Brown has three years left at a $5.875 million cap hit and a seven-team no-trade clause.

Ducks mailbag

Josh Cooper of The Athletic: (mailbag) One former executive wondered about a Corey Perry for Loui Eriksson trade if he isn’t bought out. Perry does have a full no-movement clause. He does have some value even if he’s a little slower.

“At the end, look for teams that are in win-now mode that have puck possession players and lack a net-front presence as an entirety,” an NHL team scout said. “Like with Chicago, let’s say Corey Perry comes back slower, he can still make plays in front of the net … If he can play with Patrick Kane, I’m sure they could figure out ways to make everyone happy.”

Moving on from Perry creates a roster spot for one of their younger talented players.

Even if the Ducks retained 50 percent the Ducks may have to add a sweetener, and Perry would have to approve the trade.
