The Providence Bruins have signed forwards Brendan Woods and Samuel Asselin to two-year AHL contracts; and defensemen Chris Breen, Joel Messner and Alexey Solovyev and forward Robert Lantosi to one-year AHL contracts.
Woods, 27, spent last season with the AHL’s Utica Comets, where he tallied seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 53 games.
A native of Humboldt, Sask., Woods has appeared in 262 career AHL contests with Utica and Charlotte, recording 39 goals and 46 assists for 85 points.
Woods was a fifth-round choice by Carolina in the 2012 NHL Draft and has appeared in seven career NHL contests with the Hurricanes.
Asselin, 21, will make his pro debut in 2019-20 after four seasons of junior hockey in the QMJHL. Last year, Asselin led the league with 48 goals and tied for 10th with 86 points in 69 games between Acadie-Bathurst and Halifax.
Breen, 30, will enter his sixth season with Providence and his 10th as a professional in 2019-20. He talleid two goals and nine assists in 47 games with the Bruins last season.
Breen has skated in 509 regular-season games in the AHL with Providence and Abbotsford, notching 16 goals and 63 assists for 79 points. In P-Bruins history, he ranks fifth all-time in games played (264).
Breen also has two assists in nine career NHL games, all with Calgary back in 2013-14.
Messner, 25, skated in 32 AHL games with Providence as a rookie in 2018-19, collecting one goal and six assists. He also talleid six goals and 12 assists in 27 games with Atlanta (ECHL).
Solovyev, 24, has spent the last four seasons at Bentley University. The Moscow native registered five goals and eight assists in 37 games as a senior in 2018-19.
Lantosi, 23, recorded 20 goals and 38 assists for 58 points in 56 games with Nitra MHC in Slovakia last season, ranking fifth in the league in scoring.
