Sharks re-sign five

The San Jose Sharks have re-signed forward Dylan Gambrell and defenseman Nick DeSimone to two-year contracts, and forwards Antti Suomela and Maxim Letunov and defenseman Kyle Wood to one-year contracts.

Gambrell, 22, skated in 51 games with the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda as a rookie last season, collecting 20 goals and 25 assists for 45 points. He added one goal and three assists in four Calder Cup Playoff contests.

A second-round choice by San Jose in the 2016 NHL Draft, Gambrell also skated in eight regular-season games with the Sharks, and scored one goal — his first career NHL points — in two games during the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

DeSimone, 24, skated in his second pro season in 2018-19 and collected 14 goals and 32 assists for 46 points in 65 AHL games with the Barracuda, tied for seventh among all AHL defensemen in scoring.

In 128 career AHL contests, DeSimone has tallied 21 goals and 46 assists for 67 points.

Suomela, 25, made his North American debut last season and notched six goals and 14 assists for 20 points in 47 AHL games with the Barracuda, along with three goals and five assists for eight points in 27 NHL matches with the Sharks.

Letunov, 23, spent his rookie season with the Barracuda in 2018-19, collecting 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points in 57 AHL games.

Wood, 23, skated in all 68 AHL games for San Jose last season and recorded six goals and 29 assists for 35 points.

In 187 regular-season AHL games with San Jose, Tucson and Springfield, Wood has totaled 23 goals and 74 assists for 97 points.
