Tanguay joins Wild as assistant coach

Alex Tanguay has been named assistant coach of the Iowa Wild, the team announced today.

Tanguay will join head coach Tim Army and assistant Brett McLean behind the bench for the 2019-20 season. Tanguay played three seasons (2013-16) in Colorado while Army was an assistant coach with the Avalanche, and was teammates with McLean with the Avs in 2005-06.

Tanguay, 39, had been serving as an analyst on NHL Network since completing his 16-year NHL playing career in 2016. A member of Colorado’s Stanley Cup championship team in 2001, Tanguay skated in 1,088 regular-season games with Colorado, Calgary, Montreal, Tampa Bay and Arizona, recording 283 goals and 580 assists for 863 points.

Tanguay began his pro career with the AHL’s Hershey Bears at the end of the 1998-99 season, appearing in five regular-season games and five playoff contests.
