Allen added to Bears’ coaching staff

The Washington Capitals have named Scott Allen assistant coach of the AHL’s Hershey Bears.

Allen, 53, brings 23 years of coaching experience to Hershey, including 11 in the AHL as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Rampage (2002-04, 14-15), Lowell Lock Monsters (2004-05), Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights (2005-07), Quad City Flames (2007-09), Peoria Rivermen (2012-13), Chicago Wolves (2013-14) and Portland Pirates (2015-16). Allen also had stints as a head coach in San Antonio and Portland.

Most recently, Allen spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Arizona Coyotes, overseeing the team’s defense and penalty killing units.

A native of New Bedford, Mass., Allen has also been an NHL assistant with the New York Islanders (2009-12) and Florida Panthers (2016-17).

Allen replaces Mike Eastwood, who left Hershey’s coaching staff to accept a position outside the organization.
