NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks: Boeser, Markstrom and Eriksson

Boeser and the Canucks are not close … Markstrom not panicking about an extension

James (@Account4hockey): David Pagnotta said on Sportsnet 650 that the Vancouver Canucks and Brock Boeser are not close on a contract but they are not “miles apart” like the Toronto Maple Leafs-Mitch Marner and the Winnipeg Jets-Patrik Laine are.

Sounding like Boeser is wanting a short-term deal.

Rick Dhaliwal: Vancouver Canucks goaltender Jacob Markstrom‘s agent, Pat Morris, on Sportsnet 650.

“When Vancouver wants to talk we are ready, we will explore a deal with them, they are dealing with Boeser right now anyways. Jacob proved he is a #1 goalie last year.”

Markstrom is entering the final season of his deal.

Rick Dhaliwal: Morris adds that there is no panic on their side of things to get a deal done. A lot of goalies end up playing out the final year of their deals.

What will end up happening with Eriksson?

Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province: Loui Eriksson is halfway through his six-year, $36 million deal. He’s only scored 31 goals in his first three seasons, 196 games, with the Vancouver Canucks.

With the term and salary left, there is no trade market for him. He has no-trade clause, but if there was interest, he’d consider a change of scenery.

GM Jim Benning has spoken with Eriksson and his agent about the comments he made earlier this offseason about not always getting along with head coach Travis Green and not being trusted.

“I’ve been in contact with Loui and his agent the last couple of months and he’s going to sit and talk to Travis,” said general manager Jim Benning. “He’s going to have a good camp and find where he fits. We still think he’s a good player and hasn’t scored like his contract would dictate how he should score.”

The Canucks potential roster could see Eriksson as the teams extra forward. He could end up on waivers and would save the Canucks $1.075 against the cap.

There were offseason trade rumors with the Edmonton Oilers and Milan Lucic, but Lucic was dealt to the Calgary Flames for James Neal.

Another offseason rumor had Eriksson returning to the Dallas Stars in a deal that could include Andrew Cogliano and Blake Comeau. Both Cogliano and Comeau have a combined cap hit $5.6 million.
