NHL postpones playoffs for two days after Hockey Diversity Alliance calls for action on anti-Black racism

The NHL is on the cusp of postponing its two playoff games tonight, in support of Black Lives Matter.

The NHL and the players’ association have been meeting since members of the Hockey Diversity Alliance called for a one-day shutdown earlier Thursday.

The league continued with games on Wednesday despite protests and postponements in other sports over the shooting of Jacob Blake, an unarmed Black man shot in the back by police in Wisconsin. The NBA, WNBA, MLS and MLB called off games Wednesday in protest. Thursday’s NBA games, including the opener of the Raptors’ series against the Celtics, have also been postponed, but the league announced the playoffs will resume, possibly on the weekend.
