Florida’s Matthew Tkachuk misses Game 5 of Stanley Cup final with injury

Florida Panthers star forward Matthew Tkachuk was scratched for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup final against the Vegas Golden Knights.

The rambunctiously effective, offensive-minded Tkachuk, perhaps the biggest star of the NHL playoffs,is believed to be suffering an injury to the left side of his body, perhaps his shoulder. He was used sparingly in Game 4, and mainly controlled his stick with his right hand.

The loss was a big blow to Florida, which needed a win to stay alive and force a Game 6 back in Florida on Friday night.

Tkachuk led the Panthers with 11 goals, 13 assists and 24 points in the playoffs and was considered a candidate for the Conn Smyth Trophy as MVP of the post-season.
