Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck named to NHL all-star team for 4th time

Connor Hellebuyck is set to shine among the NHL’s best once again.

The Winnipeg Jets netminder, called Bucky by teammates, will make his fourth all-star appearance — and second straight — when the league celebrates the game’s most outstanding players next month in Toronto.

Hellebuyck, 30, is in his ninth full season in the NHL, all with the Jets. He was also named an all-star in 2018, 2020, and 2023.

He is currently among the NHL leaders in wins (tied at second with 19), goals-against average (fifth at 2.33) and save percentage (sixth at .920) for goalies who have played at least 12 games, and games played this season (fourth at 27).

Hellebuyck was recently named the NHL’s third star of the month for December after posting a 7-0-2 record with a 1.88 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage.

Winnipeg has not allowed more than three goals in a game since Nov. 2 and over that span, Hellebuyck is 15-3-2 with a shutout, a 2.00 GAA and a .932 save percentage.

He won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goaltender in 2020 and has been a finalist for the award two other times, in 2018 and 2023.

The 2024 NHL all-star weekend is being hosted by the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena on Feb. 2-4. The skills competition will be held Feb. 2 and the all-star game played on Feb. 3.

Most of the all-star players were unveiled on Thursday, though the remaining 12 players — eight skaters and four goalies — will be selected through an online fan vote that closes Jan. 11.
